As home care business owners, we all operate on systems that we’ve so eloquently built in order to achieve proper care for our clients. Once we’ve mastered those systems and our care units are running efficiently and effectively, we naturally start to think about how to scale to the next level. In this series, we explore the key components to scaling your home care business while maintaining the highest quality care, optimal efficiency, and meeting your financial goals.
First, a reminder. The care of your clients always comes first. It goes without saying that our primary purpose is the best quality care of our clients. In recognizing that care encompasses the whole person, we embrace that our clients are part of a community that we created through our business services, but that now surrounds us in turn helps us grow.
In our exploration, we have touched on many aspects of successfully growing your home care business. Of these, it seems fitting that our last in this series is a focus on being involved in the community.
What you have created through setting your boundaries, building solid communication platforms, identifying your strengths, weaknesses, and identity, and realizing that your clients and caregivers are inspired by your presence and showing your face, is now culminating with the ultimate level of leadership, coming full circle. The community that you built, within the larger community, relies on you, trusts you, and reveres you. This is the level of sustainable growth that you have strived for; this is where you hit your stride.
Build on your momentum and recognize the contribution you are expected to bring as a community member. Practice giving back to the community, showing those around you that you care. Your involvement makes an impact – a ripple effect spreading goodwill and mutual respect with the entire community.
Champion a few causes near and dear to your heart, perhaps inspired by a caregiver or a client. Use a cause, a competition, or a race as a bonding opportunity for staff, clients, and the community alike. The deeper you reach into your community ties, the more warmly they will bond with you. Become an irreplaceable gem in the community. Be a source of expertise, care, and comfort. Love on your community, and it will love you back.
True sustainability and steady growth in the home care business are ultimately all about heart. Show your heart to your community, bring your staff alongside you with investments of money as possible, love, and familiarity,
We will say it today, and over this series: there’s nothing easy about growth. You’re not alone if it feels challenging. But if you establish early that you are invested at a heart level in the care of your clients, support of your staff, and engagement with your community, you have laid the ultimate foundation for growth.
